My sister has bought an old PC to learn a bit about computer use. There is very little free HD space left. I have deleted Temp files and other un-necessary stuff to try and free up a bit of HD.
If the PC is not going on the internet just yet, can I uninstall AOL and an associated Cyber Patrol program ? I don't want her to lose any other program functions?
If the PC will be used for the net in the future, am I correct in saying the equivilent of the AOL program will come on a disc from the ISP. I have broadband and know nothing of AOL.
I have IE 5.5 on a disc that came free with a magazine if needed.
Thanks

You will have no problem with removing anything dealing w/AOL. If AOL is what you or she decides to use as your ISP in the future, then you can find the AOL Client software anywhere. As for Cyber Patrol, you might want to keep any software disks so it could be reloaded in the future. Cyber Patrol is used by business's, schools, parents to filter where their children visit on the Net. It only costs around $50.00 if you wanted to buy it.
Just look to see if there is an "Uninstall" program for each of these programs (usually is found in the softwares directory where it was installed to). If there is an unistall program this will back the software packages off the PC and thus not affecting any other functions or services.
One suggestion I would make is, if you have the WIndoze disks, to wipe the HDD clean and reinstall Windoze. This will give you a fresh start and would insure a smoother running PC. That is if you have the Windoze OS disks.
There are quite a few sites on the Net that will show you where you can gain back HDD space for Windows PC's.

Thanks.
As my sister is over 21 years old I don't think the cyber patrol program will be needed.
She received no discs with the PC. I will see how it runs before uninstalling anything else.
