Hitman pro does find some items but I am reluctant to pay for software using this clearly infected computer.

hmmmm....use the free 30 day trial

Best thing to start with is a full scan using malwarebytes and fix all it finds.

Ok, it would be nice if you stated in your origional post what you have already done....that way we have an idea of what to suggest to you.

Try these 2 tools and fix all they find....run them till they run clean
1- Trojan Remover
2- Hitman pro

I have experienced this exact issue yesterday.

I cannot run malwarebytes in normal or safemode. In safemode I can get it to start but then within seconds it flicks off and then I am unable to load it again with the error

" Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item"

This is the exact same with Trojan Remover.

My Antivirus (Sophos) has been disabled and I am unable to enable it.

Hitman pro does find some items but I am reluctant to pay for software using this clearly infected computer.

Items it seems to locate are:

c_77521.nl_ in windows\system32
netbt.sys in system32\drivers
X in appdata\local\93826acf

Any advice would be appreciated

I could not find the free 30 day trial anywhere! Though perhaps I was not looking in the right place.

Either way, my computer will now not boot into even safemode so looks like a reformat is teh only way forward.

I have no idea where you were looking, here are the links to the 2 free trials
1- Trojan Remover
http://www.simplysup.com/tremover/d...
2- Hitman Pro
http://www.surfright.nl/en/downloads

What are the errors you get when tapping f8 and then trying safe mode with networking?

Is this a PC or a notebook?
