How do you define good enough? Mine has always been: stable operation, regular definition updates, good tech support, decent resource use and fair price and local/global reputation. In my opinion, Norton 2002 meets that exactly. I have had very good luck with it and have been fortunate and the few its detected, it has taken care of on its own. Also, I do not surf sites that are "shady" and NEVER download anything I'm not exactly sure what's in it and I always virus scan before installing any downloads and I always check the properties (file size, location) before installing. Believe, the cost of Norton is well worth the price, especially if you get hit once, and BIG! I use the Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional. Am not famalier with PCCillin, but you can search it on google with the word + recommendations and you shall see.

I use Norton, but have many friends that use Trend Micro's PC-cillin. Their website "House Call" is recommended as one of the best sites to solve virus infections at this forum, the other site of course is Symantec. From what I have seen and heard PC-cillian is a decent program. The highest rated programs at the Virus Bulletin website are Eset's NOD32, Norton and Kapersky. Check that site out for the testing results, as the type of operating system really impacts on the test results. Wilders.org, thepublicworks and PC Flank also have some reviews too. If you are going to get Norton buy 2002, because you can now buy it at a real decent price. 2003 is not worth the extra cost from the reviews I have read. All the best!

AVG is also a good, free AV program. It saved my butt the other day,by not allowing me to right-click on a file to scan with NAV2002,but instead warning me of it being a virus. The thing is,AVG wasn't even running...NAV was!

PC-cillin is very good anti-virus ... but if you want a gr8 anti-virus then buy NOD32 from www.NOD32.com.au its awesome just about 3mb download and it scans faster than anything I have seen and it has 19 ICSA awards :) AVG is gr8 too for a free scanner. AVG is also in your computers memory even if you disable it so thats why it detected the virus KID ... AVG is always there.

Summary: Is there a truly free anti-virus program out there? Not one where you pay 30 days later. I'm looking to replace norton with something similar to it. (real time protection, not just scan once and sit)....
