Well, I have been using Norton Internet Security 2005 for quite a while now, since it is preinstalled on my pc with a 90 days subscription. The subscription is about to expire (renewal is only $30) , so I'm trying to find an alternate antivirus that's just as good. NIS 2005 seems to run too many processes on my computer and kinds of slow it down, but it is not too bad. It's pretty good actually, but it is a computer hog. I was wondering if you guys can give me some recommendations on a very good antivirus and firewall , that isn't such a computer hog. It doesn't matter if its free, or not as long as it is good. I would prefer free :). Who wouldn't? Well, I would appreciate it, if you can list me some recommendations and give me opinions your on NIS 2005, if it is worth keeping.

Thanks

I recommend KAV or NOD32, I use KAV and I'd rather you add $9.00 to that $30.00 you are looking to spend on Norton renewal and get NOD32.

List of lists

if NAV is working for you, keep it. You can uninstall/disable the features you dont want/need. if you have to change though, take a look at Trend Micro.

There are two respected free antivirus products available. These are Avast and AVG. You'll find a link to AVG at the top of this forum in the 'click here' for useful links. Avast is a simple google away.

These programs are nearly as good as the paid for programs. If you have any important information or mission critical data, it will be worth the cost. I use AVG and Avast on various home computers. My laptop is sometimes used to connect to other networks, I use a commercial program in it!

The merits of Norton has been discussed many times, here's a recent discussion.

Have used AVG for 2 years now and never have had a virus . Updates are almost daily even with the free version . Uses few resources too .

OK. KAV and NOD32 have been very popular these few years. Both KAV and NOD32 use very less ram and have an excellent detection rate.
