Now that 80% of home PCs in the U.S. are infected with adware and spyware, according to one study, it turns out that nearly every anti-adware application on the market catches less than half of the bad stuff.

Here's the full story from Brian Livingston. Scroll down webpage to Anti-adware Misses Most Malware.

Thanks Ironman. There is no question the bad guys are in the lead, and the good guys react to their innovation. It is also clear that the main line of defense is us the user. It is interesting that Howe used several paid programs, but only used the free version of Adaware. Its performance was right up there. It would have nice if he had tested the PLUS and PRO version of Adaware. I think everyone should consider upgrading their Adaware program to the Plus or Pro in order to support the Lavasoft teams efforts.

This is why a lot of people use more than one spyware detection program. AdAware is great, Spybot S&D is great, and together they'll find darn near anything.

(Them fixing the problem is another matter...)

Say something cryptic, then leave snickering.
