Check out the Virus Bulletin Site to see what programs obtained the best tests scores and received the 100% VBS Award. The operating system also effects the testing results, which is interesting. The two best programs are NOD32 and NORTON 2002. Your best bet would be to try them out, and see how they work on your system and how you like the features of the programs. All the best!

Well if you want to stay away from the Main AV products, heres one that has a pretty good rating. I personally like Norton. We have it installed on our Netware network running 54 servers and 10k workstations, and it has just worked flawlessly. Good luck on your hunt.

hi jim,
my 2 choices are are Esset's Nod32 and Kapersky labs.
for the reasons of detecting virii and also a small footprint nod32 is the best, Kapersky labs (KAV)is also very good, and it may have the best trojan detection rates of any anti-virus program.
personally i've been using nod32 for 2 years now after having tried mcaffee, norton, fprot, avg, and inoculate it, nod32 is the best for me, and Kav would be my second choice.
all the best,
murve

Thanx for the advice.I did find virus bulletin site.I found it both informative and a little surprising.capt, murve, I am trialing NOD32 right now.so far it scans fast and is totally compatible.Norton, the only concern I have there is size.Underdog, thanx for the idea of panda.I tried a "trial version" of panda titanium gold 3 or 4 months ago.It didn't delete ,just renamed files.Well thanks again everybody.

Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus 2002 is the best choice. It has a clean, userfriendly interface and catches 99.8% of all viruses/worms/trojans. It also catches a respectable 99.1% of zoo viruses with bloodhound enabled

But the real question is - Is there anything wrong with using AVG free anti-virus software? Some say it's much better than the AV software you have to pay for and others say it's worse. So any thoughts on that?

About using free anti-virus program(AVG):No, nothing wrong with that and lots of people go that route. And I think Grisoft.com is a to be given a lot of credit for the service they are providing in this free anti-virus program.I can only go by advice from forums and test results(independent and legitimate)found on the net. That's why I'm changing. It's more a test result issue than anything else. And I don't knock the idea of using AVG,when I was really new to computers and the net I used it because it was free and lots of ppl were using it.No complaints there!
