On my new Vista system I de-installed Norton Network sercurity and installed first MicroTrends and then NOD32 in both cases when i finished the install and rebooted the pc i was unable to get on line with road runner.

I contacted rr support and they were able to see my system but unable to ping me.

When i uninstalled each of the packages i was able to get on line again.

Is there a known conflict or something.

Norton often leaves behind bits and pieces of itself after an uninstall. This could be causing a conflict with other installed security applications.

Try running the Symantec "Norton removal tool" first then reinstalling security app:

It is adviseable to only have one Anti-Virus application running on your pc.

I agree with btk1w1. Norton (and Mcafee) antivirus programs need their own uninstaller program to remove all of their components leftover from a simple uninstall. Those leftover files will definitely cause conflicts with any other av you try to install.

Also, I'm not sure if I read that right, but were you trying to install both Microtrend and NOD32 antivirus programs together? If so, most likely, they will conflict as well. You only need one antivirus. However, if you want to be overly cautious, choose a good online antivirus scanning site, but remember to disable the one you have installed while doing it.

Good luck.
