This is my teenage son's laptop, don't know what he has been up to but needless to say I am here in the hope it can be resolved. Ok what I do know is that anti virus 2009 is on here and causing all sorts of problems. He had he avg on here but it will not update at all, we lost ie7 completley at one point but managed somehow to get it back, however it will not load certain pages. He also operates aol which is also affected. Whatever I have tried to download it won't let me. Pop ups all over the place. Msn won't work it say's access denied. Can not update adaware either. I have tried loading programs of my laptop on to disk to then install on here but it won't even open them.
Please help

That's a very bad one. Only program I found to remove it was Malwarebytes Anti-Malware..

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

You'll probably have to download it using another computer, then use a USB drive or burn to CD to transfer to the infected computer. Then try installing and running it.

Be aware, even though I got rid of it before using it, sometimes the damage done by the virus is so bad you may still end up reinstalling Windows if it doesn't work right. Good luck.

[Another "kids are smarter on computers" myth busted.]

Assume that I already did an Internet search.

Thanks for your quick reply. I have tried already downloading what you have said, however no joy, won't even open from a disc or usb drive, very frustrating.

You may need to find someone who knows how to do an offline virus scan, or slave the hard drive to another computer with special adapters and scan using that computer.

Either that or reinstall Windows from scratch after backing up any data you don't want to loose.

Hi,

it seems that Antivirus 2009 is on the wild. I have heard many people complains about this parasite. The best that i can suggest is to download Spyware Doctor. Also you can try to use manual removal guide here: http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-ant...

It is a rogue spyware infection. Antivirus 2009 is an unwanted program, from the authors of Antivirus 2008 . (it has many clones like antivirus 2010, xp antivirus 2008, antivirus 360, virus responselab 2009, ultimate antivirus etc). These applications have resembling interface and "features". After stealth installation, Antivirus 2009 will show tonns of fake spyware\adware detection messages and offers to remove reported threats (after you purchase commercial version). But in real Antivirus 2009 is not a spyware cleaner, it's just an imitation of spyware remover. Antivirus 2009 can also slow your computer and cause system errors and crashes. Remove Antivirus 2009 using manual removal instructions (for advanced users) or removal tool. use manual removal guide

I got the free Cyberdefender anti-virus program first off their website (www.cyberdefender.com) which found a lot of stuff on my system and got rid of the spyware and Trojans. I guess I should have gotten the paid version, but since the free scanner didn’t find any viruses I didn’t buy the upgrade then. In the past, some of the software that I installed on my system I couldn’t get completely un-installed. As a test I un-installed Cyberdefender, and found that it was completely removed, no lingering pops or other stuff.

I re-installed Cyberdefender and ran it once a month or any time I got strange pop ups, just check so viruses, spyware or other bad stuff. About 2 weeks ago, a virus came along and Cyberdefender caught it, and so I bought the upgrade to get rid of the virus. I later ran Cyberdefender after the upgrade and it could not detect the virus. Since then, no problems. This is my experience with Cyberdefender - really good software and the 24/7 computer help is great.
