I tried doing what was instructed to do from that thread, but it seems that programs that I click on tend to shut off within 1-2 seconds of turning it on (often less).

I can open all the other programs from that thread (Killbox, ATF Cleaner, etc) but HijackThisk always gets shut off within 1 second that I click on it. On normal AND safe mode. hence I cannot use this.

The same problem also happens with all the programs from the control panel (add/remove program, etc) and it even shuts off my internet explorer when I go to certain websites.

is there another way I can fix this malware.j??? because seems like the virus shuts down HijackThis for me.

Rename Hijackthis.exe to jontro.exe (or any name you want to call it) then see if it will run.

I just changed HijackThis to Jontro and it works (Haven't tried it on Safe Mode though).

I've installed Combofix from Link1, should I run Combofix now?

I just tried to open ComboFix and it wouldn't really open, so I took your advice from earlier and changed it's name and it open.

Then it asked me to "Choose the program you want to use to open this file"

Now I'm confused. What should I choose?

I also downloaded Killbox (which has the same desktop icon as ComboFix) and ATF-Cleaner. Should I use any of those?

You have several infections, the worst being Brontok.

If you have any files/pictures you want to save you need to put them on a disk as soon as possible.

Delete the Combofix icon from you desktop.

Next go to the following link and run the Brontok removal tool:

Right click on the Combofix icon on your desktop and delete it, then download a new copy but do not run it.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.

Run Hijack This from safe mode, close all windows and browsers except Hijack This, place a check to the left of the following item and press "fix checked":

From safe mode empty the restore folder. Go to start>control panel>system>system restore tab>check the box beside "turn off system restore>apply (takes a minute)>ok. Go back and uncheck the box to turn system restore back on>apply>ok.

Run Combofix from safe mode and save a log shere you can find it.

Reboot to normal and post a new Hijack This log.

Thanks! I went to safe mode and did everything. However I was not able to run the combofix in there (even after I changed the name). It opened but some window popped up talking about another program and I just hit "OK".

You got rid of part of the virus.

Go to start> run> type in combofix /u (there must be a space after combofix) then click ok.

Download combofix again and try to run it in normal mode. Do not rename it it want help.

My system is running a bit faster now, I can run a couple of games and not lag so it's definitely improving. Thanks!
