Comment: My girlfriend's computer started up and all the windows were written in wingding font. She called me and I was able to figure out that her fonts folder was completely empty. All her fonts disappeared. I asked her to burn a CD of fonts from her Laptop and she dropped them in and installed them. But...as she closed the folder and opened it again, they all disappeared again. Some things are returning back to normal fonts but the folder is always empty. It's tough to navigate over the phone because everything is in wingding. Is this a virus??? I've heard a System Restore may or may not help. I'll have her try it next time I talk to her.. She has McAfee but it didn't catch anything. She tried to do the online freescan and it wouldn't work for some reason. Thanks in advance. Squat273

Reply: (edit)I don't have an answer for you, but I wanted to add to this post about my problem. It actually started about a week or two ago. I just did a MS Word repair because I had these weird fonts which starts out with a lot or numbers and then goes into letter fonts . I couldn't find the arial font and there were a bunch of other normal ones that I know that weren't there either. I don't use a lot of different fonts, but the nice ones (the normal ones) weren't there. I thought that this might have been caused from a glitch or something from downloading the Adobe Reader 6.0 a month ago. But I didn't notice anything at that time. Or maybe caused from my grand child playing around with the word art in the program, or even from a site that he visited. But I really have no idea why this happened. I did go to my Control Panel and check the fonts folder and they were all there. I would really like to know what happened too. I only know how to push these buttons and not really too much else on computers.

Reply: (edit)I'm having the same problem with disappearing fonts. Even after I re-install fonts, they disappear, too. And you're right, System Restore won't restore to a previous date. My Pand Antivirus was updated less than an hour before the fonts disappeared, but no virus showed up on a full scan. Anybody got any answers? Thanks

Reply: (edit)I had the same thing happen to me today. And, I had just downloaded Adobe 6.1.1, I too have McAfee (Virus scan 7.0, updated it just today and have done scans with nothing found). Guesses? 1) I thought I'd heard of a virus a while back that moved your fonts, not erasing them but appearing to. But I don't remember anything about it now. 2) On booting up on 'safe mode', I saw something flash by about a partition named 'font' or something with a 'gao' which is part of the name of a virus...but I am totally in the dark here! Help! Eric Weaver
