HELP!!

About 90% of all the jpg files in my computer
turned into *.exe files. I am very sure that
this is a virus. Days later the initial
infection happened, some of my doc files
turned into *scr files. Later, even Mozilla
Firefox now seems to be infected, as it acts
very differently now.

MY main concern is the recovery of the jpg
and doc files. They are very important to me.
I am an aspiring graphic designer and
photographer. It is hard to imagine how I
would start again from scratch without those
files.

I have tried renaming the files, but the
dialog box keeps on telling that the file "is
currently being used by other programs". I
have tried to search for solutions over the
net and it seems that I can't find any.

I will really really appreciate if I would be
able to learn how to recover the infected
files, and save them safely.

Upon that, I am very willing to format my PC
to prevent all of these.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

How about putting all the jpgs into a folder and doing a virus scan on the folder? then if they are clear, burn them onto a cd or dvd.
Once on a cd or dvd, you can load them onto another PC and try re-naming them back to jpgs. Or better yet, save them onto a thumb drive and then try renaming them.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
