OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: AMD Athlon 64 (256 ram)
Model/Manufacturer: Asus K8V motherboard
Comment:

Hi, I got this virus from a friend through AIM and would really appreciate it if someone helped me out. Yesterday, I got an IM saying "hey is it alright with you if i put this picture of us as my default on myspace? http://www.islachaffers.com/images/download.php?&file=picture07.jpg"
I clicked on the link, and some programs started running on my computer. And then all these IM windows on AIM kept on popping up. I ended up running AIMfix from Jayloden.com, and it seemed like the problem went away. And then today, my computer was working fine until the evening when all of a sudden the IM windows started popping up on AIM again. And then my internet connection got really slow, and now I cannot even connect to the internet. Sometimes the pages will load but most of the time they won't (I'm using my roommate's computer now). I have read forums on posting logs of Hijackthis and fixing the problem. I have no clue what this is, and I don't even have Hijackthis. Can anyone out there help me please? Many thanks.

hi, my ie browser is not loading pages anymore after the whole aim/myspace incident. i ran hijackthis and analyzed the log file at http://www.hijackthis.de/ and there were 2 entries that came up as nasty, as follows:

ENTRY:
C:\WINDOWS\system\svchost.exe

DESCRIPTION:
running process. (svchost.exe)
This process is not running from the System32 folder as it is supposed to be.

ENTRY:
O23 - Service: Windows Service Host (SVCHOST) - Unknown owner -

DESCRIPTION:
This service (svchost.exe) seems to be nasty.
This process is not running from the System32 folder as it is supposed to be.

i scanned C:\WINDOWS on symantec antivirus, and nothing was detected. please advise on how i can fix the virus. here is my log file if anyone wants to have a look.... many thanks to whoever responds.

I don't want to take a chance on messing up your PC, so maybe you should PM Jabuck and see if he has the time to look at this log.

Meanwhile, you should try this free Active X On-line Spyware Scan
and remove all it finds...good luck

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

hi jabuck again. by the way, before your post, i don't know why i did this, but i fixed and deleted this on hijackthis:

R1 -

was that a mistake, and do you see that causing any problems for me? thanks a lot again.

Run Hijack again in normal mode and remove this item:

O23 - Service: Windows Service Host (SVCHOST) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system\svchost.exe (file missing)

I see no problem with the item you removed, be careful with that tool.

Should you experience any problems because of the removal of the above mention item you remove just run HT> click view list of backups> click to highlight the item you wish to restore> then click restore.
