Adiis, just in case you didnt see it, because the post is far down, i uploaded a new hijackthis report, but anyway onto my question, after I finish getting a computer back to its good state. I want to be able to do 2 things. I know system restore is good, but not good enough, what image software is "out there" that I can get a hold of where i can make an easy image of my system and boot it from that disk on a recovery portion of the harddrive for future problems. My second question is, what best anti- virus,malware,spyway, and rootkit software thats FREE would you recommmend? Thanks
As soon as I turn on the computer, it goes to the log in screen, np, It can be there as long as it wants, but when it loads the desktop, I see everything for 5 seconds followed by a reboot. This happens in safe mode too.
it sounds like there is something that is loading and then causing the reboot. Have you added any software since you cleaned up the computer? You might have to boot off of the Windows CD and run a repair. Not the recovery console but an automatic repair.
Hi doomhammerr, sorry for late reply. Dear this coz of some suspect files onto your system which are causing system to reboot. These files starts with windows start up and mess up.
Adii, i cannot do ANY of that you recommenedded in the previous post, my computer just reboots when the desktop loads, i cant do anything, this happens in safe mode too, every single time i turn it on, it gets to log in screen, i log on, and 5 seconds after the desktop screen shows up it reboots, is there a way to fix this?!?!
To get the logs Adii requires you may need to instruct the pc not to restart.
You say you get around 5 seconds of desktop time so hopefully this will allow you enough time to enter a short run command to keep your pc alive to run the scans and post the logs.
Once your desktop has loaded click start then run and quickly type in:
shutdown -a
NOTE: There is a space between shutdown and -a
This shutdown abort command will override any malware that are commanding reboots.
Next create a batch file so that instead of rushing to type the command everytime you need to restart you can double click an icon saved to the desktop to run it for you.
Open a new text document by right clicking the desktop, select "new" then "text document". Open the document and paste the text from between the double lines into it (paste the text only, not the lines):
===========================================
cd\ shutdown -a
===========================================
click "file" > "save as" name the file "shutdown.bat" (no quotes-"). Save as "all files", and make sure it is saved to your desktop.
Now you should have an icon that has a cog wheel in it named "shutdown" on your desktop you can double click to prevent shutdown and restart.
Be sure to delete it once the reboot problem is fixed.
is there a faster way, i got like 1 second, and a made the .bat on a flash drive, but i didnt have time to click on it or anything, can i enter this some other way?
seeing as how i couldnt do anything within that allocate time limit, i put in ubunto 5.10 live cd, can i do all these programs using that? course it is the live cd, so could i run these programs, OR fix the shutodwn problem from the live cd of ubuntu, and also, if i have a copy of windows xp, can i use the license off the side of the computer instead and just start over?
well, what if i dont have the original cd? im sure i could ask the guy if he has it, but, if he doesnt, could i use my windows xp cd, or are their free apps to do this?
