Upon Startup/Restart, I get a message that indicates my there is a problem with my Windows Defender that prevents its bootup. Additionally, I keep getting a popup message from a small red X-shield in start up tray. Frequently, my computer automatically performs uncommanded connection to the Internet, when it brings me to these pop-up sites to remove spyware. Today, I suddently have a new Program File named nnzmzcd with a single file named admcmd.dll in it. I tried to delete the .dll file, but it would not allow me. I did not install this Program File. I believe all of this is from Adware/Spyware or Virus. How can I safely remove these items?

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from one of these sites:
1. Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
2. Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
3. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
4. Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan. The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
5. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
6. Make sure that everything found is checked, and click Remove Selected.
7. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
8. The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
9. Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Please download and install the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2:
Download the "HijackThis" Installer from this link:
Hijack This
1. Save " HJTInstall.exe" to your desktop.
2. Double click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
3. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
4. Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
5.Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
6. Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
7. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
8. Paste the log in your next reply.
9. Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Thank you so much for your advice. I downloaded the MalwareBytes software and after installing and running it, I found that it identified more than 63-Trojans, Adware, and virus traces. It allowed me to quarantine and delete all of them, which restored all of my full-functionality (including restoring my Windows Defender usage upon reboot). I have not had any further appearances of the troublesome items. Thank you so much.
You asked for full Log of my findings. Please find it herein (sorry long log entries):

I doubt that it totally cleaned the computer. You should complete the cleaning process, the scans in response #1 only begin the clean-up.

This is the Log Report that I found when I downloaded and scanned using the HijackThis as recommended; is there still file viruses (not including my McAfee; Windows Defender; MalwareBytes; and Ad-Aware virus protectors)?

Combofix is a powerful tool so follow the instructions exactly or you could damage your computer.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with Combofix and remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on This Link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.In your case to run Combofix do the following:
1. Go offline turn off your McAfee antivirus, Windows Defender< Ad-Aware and any other antispyware that you may have.
2. Run Combofix and save its log.
3. Restart the computer to get the antivirus running again but leave the antispyware programs off until we get the computer cleaned.
4. Post the Combofix log.
Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.
Double-click combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
(Don't click on the window while the program is running or move the mouse, it will cause your system to hang.)
Please post the log it produces.

I have updated my Java as you instructed (JRE 6 Update 7).
I downloaded and executed the ComboFix as you instructed. ComboFix automatically rebooted my computer. I am posting the entire Log Report below (does the general public see my Log Reports? Does the Log Reports contain enough personal info about my computer to allow a hacker to enter my computer easier or should I worry that they are learning too much about my particular computer because I posted these Log Reports)?
Prior to downloading & executing ComboFix, I was off-line working on something else, when I had an UN-COMMANDED Internet Explorer connection. I very quickly broke the connection, and it did not reconnect during the past 1-hour. Should I still be worried about someone's capability to take-over my computer connections (or was this a problem of one of my internal computer software programs attempting to carry out a normal reporting duty)?
Thanks for your help.

I emptied the Restore Folder and reset it (turning it back on).
I downloaded the ATF Cleaner and ran it as instructed, emptying all as selected.
I downloaded ESET and it is now scanning (takes some time).

I completed the ESET Virus Scan as you instructed. It found one (1) potential virus as noted below. Should I attempt to remove this file manually by deleting it?

Looks better, one file and one folder to remove.
Open Notepad and copy/paste everything between the X"s into it and make sure the first word (such as KILLALL, Or File, etc.) is at the very top of the page.

Go to File on the top bar and choose" Save As", Change the "Save As Type" to All Files, Name it CFScript.txt then save it to your desktop.
Then drag/drop the CFScript.txt onto ComboFix.exe (the red symbol on your desktop) if combofix does not auto start click "run".Next go to start> run> type in combofix /u (note the space after combofix)> then press enter. This will uninstall combofix.
Try to remove the following item with combofix again:
O24 - Desktop Component 1: Desktop Uninstall - (no file)
Please download SuperAntiSpyware from the following link to your desktop:
1. Open SuperAntiSpware from its icon and install and Update it

3. Close browsers before scanning.
4. Scan for tracking cookies.
5. Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
6. Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.
DO NOT run yet.Now reboot into Safe Mode: How to enter safe mode(XP)
Using the F8 Method
Restart your computer.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode. Now Scan with SuperAntiSpyware
1. Open from the desktop icon or the program Files list
On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
2. Perform a Complete scan. After scan,Verify they are all checked.
3. Click OK on the summary screen to quarantine all found items.
4. If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally. To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.

4. A text file will open in your default text editor.
5. Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
6. Click Close to exit the program.

Dear Jabuck,
It seems that we are coming to the end. I created a Desktop File Folder to hold all the Virus Protections and the Log Reports. My File Folder was named Virus Sweepers, so you may see that file show up on Log Reports.1. I deleted the Application Data files using the KILLALL aspect in combination with combofix /u as you instructed. It appears to have deleted those files.
2. When I ran the combofix /u (to uninstall combofix), it showed windows message indicated that combofix was uninstalled. However, it left a single 1-kb document/file. That executable document/file will not allow me to do anything with it, except read the named location on the Desktop (the Japanese characters): "C:\Documents and Settings\Michael Erickson\デスクトップ\ComboFix.exe" . Should I attempt to delete this File/Document?
3. I used the HiJackThis tool again, and attempted to Scan, then Delete via Fix This, the 024 - Desktop Component 1: Desktop Uninstall - (no file). However, despite repeatedly doing this step, each time I scanned with HiJackThis, I continued to receive the 024 - Desktop Component file again showing up on the Log Report. It seems this is persistently refusing to be deleted. The Scan Log Report is appended below. Is this a virus?
4. I downloaded SuperAntiSpyware; Checked the Close Browsers; Scan for Tracking Cookies; Terminate Memory Threats; closed. Then, I rebooted in SafeMode as instructed; Scanned using SuperAntiSpyware. There were NO virus or problems noted, thus I did not need to Quarantine anything. I closed the SuperAntiSpyware, & rebooted manually into normal Windows startup mode. The SuperAntiSpyware Log Report is noted below.
5. I then repeated full-computer Virus Scans using: WindowsDefender; McAfee; Ad-Aware; MalwareBytes; HiJackThis; and now SuperAntiSpyware tools. None of them had any virus activity or malware to report (other than the 024 Desktop Component 1: Desktop Uninstall - (no file) problem noted on HiJackThis previously).
My questions to you:
A. Do you need any other Log Reports appended here?
B. What is the next steps, if any?
C. When all of this is finished, do I need to keep/maintain as running, all of the Virus Protection Software companies tools (WindowsDefender; McAfee; Ad-Aware; HiJackThis; SuperAntiSpyware, ComboFix), or should I delete some of these software applications using my Control Panel Add/Remove Applications?
D. I am not happy that SuperAntiSpyware always performs uncommanded/automatic Internet Explorer conections with each Computer Windows-Start/Bootup. I assume this is to automatically check for Virus Definitions updates, but as a layman, I can never quite be sure of who is forcing the connections. Thus I really do not want my software connecting to Internet without my command. If you subsequently suggest keeping the SuperAntiSpyware software on my computer indefinitely (for future problems), is there a feature/aspect to force this software NOT to connect automatically?Waiting for your further comments and suggestions. If I did not tell you often enough to this point, I am so very thankful to you for spending your time helping me.
Michael J. Erickson

The 024 in hijack This refers to a file auto starting on you desktop that is unidentified and is probably not needed but should not cause you any grief, so just leave it for now.
The single file left by combofix should also cause you no problems so just leave it.
As for the tools we used you can uninstall them via add/remove programs. You may want to keep Malwarebytes and AFT Cleaner and run the weekly.
In my opinion you should get rid of Windows Defender and add "Spywareblaster" to your arsenol of antispyware tools, you can download it from this link Spywareblaster
Just download it,install it, and update it. Its free and runs in the background, so you don't actually run it, and re-writes malicious script before it can install on your computer. Look for updates weekly as there is no auto-update on the free version.

Dear Jabuck,
I have downloaded and installed the Spywareblaster as you instructed. I have removed the SuperAntiSpyware software from my system. I will keep all the rest of my virus protectors (who know, can never have too many protections I guess).
I am very thankful to you for helping me through this whole process, with all of your very easy to understand and step-by-step instructions. Best wishes to you.Michael J. Erickson
