I haven't really been taking good care of my computer as I thought I was. I regularly run updated versions of adaware and spybot and mostly catch tracking cookies and occasionally an odd registry entry, and It seemed to work fine enough because I never got any apparent adware, and If I did I could usually get it to stop(if only superficially make the outward appearance of the infection stop). Now I'm constantly getting popups whenever I'm browsing with IE to

http://error.99fh.com/error.html

All the links on that error lead to SearchMeUp.com, so I can only assume It might have something to do with that strain of adware. I did a google for searchmeup and naturally got a lot of hits about browser hijacks, but I didn't really see any symptoms from the guide sites that were consistant with what appeared to be on my PC. Spybot and Adaware haven't caught anything helpful either, and I fear there might be more crap hiding in there I don't even know about if they missed this, but I digress.

I've tried a few other malware scanners and they've unearthed a few things adaware and spybot didn't see, I'm not sure if they found anything relating to the searchmeup window, because I don't really even know what the popup truly is from, and naturally most of the free scanners will only find the infections, and make you pay to remove them.

So, any help with this bugger is much appreciated, thanks for reading.

Sounds like a hijacked browser. Go here:http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/ and see if that helps.

I ran CSWShredder, which seemed to clean up a lot of junk, including four versions of CoolWebSearch, unfortunately after a reboot and a test the popup still comes up. I've run both hijackthis and startuplist from that site and made logs, though I know I'm not allowed to post them without a request. I did notice two suspicious looking .exe's in the autorun registry though,

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ing6p.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\bdgklk.exe

After a quick google, I saw one hit about bdgklk on some japanese(or something) website with the word Trojan in it, and the other one brought me to a hit on computercops.com, which is currently under a heavy DDoS attack, coincidentally. I'm not sure how I should handle these though, as they're obviously suspicious

Joe, have a look at all these options-

Here is a spyware program you need, Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.spychecker.com/program/spybot.html

After you install it, clik the update button and scan it again, all you see in the results are buggering you up, you can check the information about each one before you delete, read carefully.

This is a great program. If you dont have an Anti-virus program i recommend Free Edition AVG can be gotten at http://www.grisoft.com/ Update the program definations often, set a scheduler up on the program.

Lastly download 'Stinger' from: http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ it will scan for 41 current virus's and worms. If running winXP or ME versions, read info here first before you scan:

http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm

You should increase your privacy/security settings, right clik My Computer, go to properties, then to the Security/Privacy tabs and try increasing your control over imposing website and hijackers.

Lastly, you should if you havent already, delete your temporary internet files and cookies often, from the IE Browser icon, right clik on it, select properties, at the General tab, clik the buttons that delete your Temps and cookies.

You can get your Free Edition PopUp killer from http://www.panicware.com get the download here:

Wonder if it could be peper....lots of pop ups, random .exes....it all sounds so familiar.

But then again maybe not... If you have run CWShredder, SpyBot (updated), Ad-Aware (updated) and still cannot fix it, post your log and I will look at it.

go ahead.
we're listening caller.
