Why does Spy Bot show my pc free of all spyware after a scan then when I go directly and do a Norton 2005 anti virus scan it comes up with Adware "180 search"? I disabled system restore and ran SpyBot and it came up clean then rebooted and enabled stystem restore, ran Norton......there it was again! Norton cannot get rid of it

I suggest you visit http://www.xona.com/2004/07/18-2.html . That website has a throughout explaination of how to get rid of 180 Search Assistant.
The website lists different ways to get rid of 180 Search Assistant, including a manual uninstall. Since you said you didn't want to work in the registry, you can try to use Symantec's removal tool for it at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/
avcenter/venc/data/adware.180search.html

Also, if you see the program in Add or Remove programs, don't uninstall it. It won't work.

hope this helps,
Laura

Netti,

Did you scan with Ad-Aware? It should remove 180 Search Assistant. It's free and you can get it at download.com

http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-2

They also have a tutorial for installing and using it.

http://www.download.com/Spyware-Center/1200-2023_4-5145813.html?tag=pdp_howto

The important thing is to update it before you scan with it.

not all programs find everything, that is why it is better to have two or three programs. I hate 180-SA!!! i have had it on my system for 4 months and could NOT get rid of it!! i ended up formatting.

Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours.

yes, its the most annoying thing ever. the only program I've ever found to remove it reliably, as well as remove a lot of other nasty stuff that ad-aware and others dont catch, is a program called xoftspy (http://www.xoftspy.co.uk). free scan but you have to pay for the full version or find a key. just goes to show that software doesnt have to be brand-name to be really good. ;)

Sephiroth would you happen to have the key to use the removal tool in Xoft? I have tried all of the above with no results.
