Add ide drive to sata setup

February 26, 2009 at 13:56:13
Specs: Windows XP
Have a pc with sata hard drive. Attempted to add an ide hard drive as the master but will not pick up.
I understand the sata drives do not have the master slave setup like ide drives but I have attempted to move the sata drive from slot 1 to slot2 and set up the ide drive as a master and slave but nothing happens.
With sata drive setup as the boot up drive, windows will load but when changing to boot up from the ide drive; windows will not fire up and continues in boot loop.

If I put the ide drive into a second computer it boots up immediately,

Is there any obvious settings I have missed or do I need some sort of converter for the ide drive, even though the cd rom is ide.

Enter your bios and change the boot order to ide as first boot device.

And, this is a Hardware question, not Security/Virus related.

Do you have an OS on the IDE drive and the partition marked active? Is it recognized in the BIOS?

i'm aware it is in the wrong category and attempted to remove which appeared to work but was unable to add again to correct category.

The ide drive has windows xp and boots up in a second machine. I have entered the bios and selected the ide drive as the boot device but following the post, the computer attemps to boot up windows but fails and resets the computer.
