Subject: Ad-Aware won't take out spywareOS: Windows XPCPU/Ram: AMD Athlon 2.4 / 1.5 GB |
Comment: The past few days I've been scanning my system for spyware using Ad-Aware SE and I keep finding 180Solutions, DyFuCa, IBIS Toolbar, Zango, and Sidefind. I clean them (delete them i don't know the term) out. I could run another scan and nothing would be picked up. The next day I find it in Ad-Aware's scan again. Also at every start-up, Spybot S&D seems to say Registry Change Allowed to about 15 things that I allowed it to always change ever since it asked me after a scan. Should it be doing this? Thanks for any help.

Reply: (edit) As for the failed spyware deletions, have you first turned off System Restore? All types of malware are designed to infect and corrupt the SR files. Turning off SR purges the SR files and any nasty code hiding in them.As to your configuration of Spybot, without knowing more about your PC and its various programs, no comment is possible. Only you know the registry entries you want to keep.

Reply: (edit)check... propeties of my computer- system restore- turn off, reboot in safe mode (f8), empty all users temp folder, empty/delete all files in temporary internet files folder, scan with ad-awareSE(or others) and plugins if needed, scan with any antivirus tool, empty trash/recycle can, using regedit search for files related to name of spyware and delete if not already by adaware, also check msconfig for startup files that are not normal and uncheck, reboot again, in safe mode F8~ :)

Reply: (edit)Not that difficult a choice! Turn off SR and lose your restore points OR live with all the malware because SR will put it back in everytime you start the PC! _________________________ The internet is no longer a toy, it's a COMBAT ZONE!

Reply: (edit)Also, do all scans and cleaning while booted in Safe Mode with no network support. Rule #1: Good Computers don't go down. Rule #2: There is no such thing as a good computer.
