...still playin' catch-up,I guess.
Interesting comments from Chris Pirillo at the Lockergnome."When I first sat down at the subject PC, I immediately identified that there was spyware present. I then installed both S&D and AdAware 6, applying the latest updates to both. I scanned with AdAware, not removing anything at that time. I then scanned with S&D to provide an accurate representation of what each detected given the same environment. What I relayed in the newsletter was exactly what I found. AdAware listed 64 components and S&D found 75 (not counting tracking items, which I don't include in the counts since they're not technically spyware). AdAware flagged many more cookies and a barrage of items in the System Restore area, while S&D actually listed the spyware components I was concerned with. There was nothing scientific about this. It was not a formal review. It was simply a real-world use of both products outside of a lab environment. THAT is exactly the sort of thing I want to present to our readers because it's far more useful than staged setups and hypothetical situations. I was going to go into more depth about certain aspects of each product, but I haven't had enough time with AdAware 6 to feel that it would be an accurate comparison, but getting down to the very basic install of each, update via Internet and scan, it was painfully obvious that AdAware still lacks adequate control of spyware."
