When I try to download the latest Ad-Aware Update, dated 6/21/05, I get an error message saying "The downloaded definitions file could not be read, please update again."

Of course, whe I try again, the same message appears.

What gives?

Yes, I use version 1.06.

FWIW, I am now able to successfully retrieve the update...must have been a temporary problem with their server during my first attempts.

This is a normal problem that I and others have had for some time. I use the Plus version.

Neither Lavasoft technical support or the Lavasoft forum has come up with a solution.

Solution is simple download the update refs file from http://www.majorgeeks.com/Ad-aware_SE_referencefile_d726.html

Extract the zip file and replace the defs.ref file in

c:\program files\lavasoft\ad-aware with the downloaded file

You can sometimes download the update file manually from lavasoft themselves
