Unable to get the new reference file. I try to update - connect and get 5% of the file then nothing - all communication seems to stop

Try it again...I've already seen a few instances of it taking more than one attempt.Besides the fact that there's probably a lot of traffic on that highway.

Tried several times - identical results. Then I tried configure - seems I am trying to connect to 127.0.0.1 - is'nt that myself?
What is the URL I need? Or is there another way of downloading the reference file? And installing it?

Never Mind. Sometimes a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. 127.0.0.1 is my proxy server. I found a source for an old reference file via google. Downloaded and installed it. I'll wait for traffic to die down before attempting to get the latest update. Thanks for your patience.

Dude if you are running Ad-Aware-6?

I think they are ending support (I had the 5% load problem with ver6, and then it shows only an update for 2002 fubar...) Had to d/l the SE version and let it uninstall the old one, now all is good.

In case you want a quick fix for this I was able to download the latest definition file for 6.0 and manually install it in x:\....\adaware 6.0\ I think they removed the link but I can e-mail it to you if you'd like. If you google it may find someone has uploaded it. It does look like they've stopped supporting 6.0 officially but this will buy you a little time in case you like to let others mass test a new software release.
