Hello,
I recently downloaded Ad-aware SE Personal.
When I started it I was told my definitions were 500 days old and was asked if I wanted to download the new one. I clicked yes and the update hung on 34%.
I then downloaded the file manually and replaced the old one and was then told they were 17 days old ! So, I clicked the update again and it hung on 5%.

Is this a general problem as I have downloaded manually and installed the latest Ad-aware twice?

help appreciated

I too am having problems with Adaware personal. When I tried to update it hung on 5% for about 10 minutes then said that the update had finished. My problem with adaware is that it keeps giving me the BSOD. Even the antivirus programs do it.

one day I might ave an alienware

Me, too! I guess it's a momentary problem and I'm sure it will right itself - usually does!

Frankly, AdAware has become a fairly useless product. You would be much better served using any or all of the freebies below.

Ad-Aware had a conflict with SpySweeper several months ago. I ended up removing SpySweeper. Now, when upgrading my BitDefender 9 to 10, during installation it asked me to remove Ad-Aware.
I ignored it, and the installation completed.
Now Ad-Aware freezes, like in your case, half way during the scan.
I am not dropping BitDefender 10.

Will this computer last five years? Obsoletely!

To fix this glitch, I removed the file called defs.ref and the defs.ref backup file. It then put up a error message sayiing it could not find definitions when I restarted Ad-Aware, ignore it. Click on updates and it will then download the latest definition file...

Re #3. On the million to one chance that a W98SE user pops by (there's still two about at least), do not use the Context Menu option during the install of ASquared. It causes all sorts of file handling issues.

I've not seen any similar complaints on XP.
