Comment:

Since the last 2 weeks, the ad-aware updates are coming in corrupt, I am downloading them manually through:

http://dlserver.download.lavasoft.c...

Since I was instructed to do so on another post here.

The last good update that worked was the 5/13/2008 version, luckily, I have been saving copies of previous definitions so I was able to revert to that version, however, that definition also has problems because it reports "No problems found" and that is just not possible since it always finds 100's of cookies to delete every time and now nothing.

Just to clarify, not only ONE week's update hasn't worked, NONE of them have, I have repeatedly downloaded them on MANY computers and on NONE of them will any definitions newer than 5/13/2008 work.

Is this something that can or will be resolved or should I just quit using Ad-aware?

Thanks,

Google around - stacks of identical problems. Lavasoft are apparently showing little interest so I guess they've thrown the hat in on W98 & WinME. I gather the bad ones work with Win2k tho.

SpyBot S&D still works with W95 to ME:

Derek is spot on... the latest version put me off the product and I was a big fan once upon a time.

Ditch it and install SUPERAntispyware instead, its free, it is lighter on resources and in my oponion is superior to Adaware.

The compatibility page says it is compatible with Windows ME, min 300Mhz CPU and min 128MB RAM.

If you are interested the first link below will give you the system requirements page and the second link will give you the download location.

That's what I was thinking. I don't have any newer computers to test it on though to see if it still works with Windows 2000 and above.

Thanks,

From what I gathered Googling, the old Ad-AwareSE still works with Win2k using the current manual definitions, although nobody knows how long this will last.

Whatever, for 9x and WinME it would be best to move to one of the others suggested.
