Subject: Ad-aware issue... need to know why?OS: 98se/XPproCPU/Ram: 512 |
Comment: Up until a week ago I was running Ad-aware without any issues until I downloaded the core application 6.181 Ad-aware was taking about 3 to 4 minutes before this update to run through my system. Since the update, it takes less than 1 minute (builds only up to 30000 on the objects scanned). It used to build up to "I believe" 70000 or 80000. Thinking that I may have done something wrong during the update I deleted Ad-aware and cleaned out the registry of all Ad-aware items. Then I downloaded (what I have running now) directly from the Lavasoft site and did all the current updates without any problems. Is it me, or is there a issue with my Ad-aware that needs to be addressed?

Reply: (edit)There was an Ad-aware update that changed the way the scan functioned. I believe it identifies the files that have been scanned before and does not routinely scan these identfied files again to save time.

Reply: (edit) The new version uses a different default setting that doesn't scan everything if you leave it like that . After you hit the start button make sure "smart system scan is noty selected , use instead the select drive to scan button and then select scan drive "C" or whatever your main drive is , I think you;ll see it scans a lot more .

Reply: (edit)The biggest difference I noticed is that it does not scan all the files "inside" system CAB files and system ZIP files. It must recognize them and checks them for any changes (they should never change) and then only scans inside them if there is a change detected.
