I had heard it came out today, but there's no way I'd pay for it at this point.Hell,I didn't even pay for it(free version) before they dropped the ball. :(

From what I understand,if you purchased Ad-Aware Plus, the download link is available only via an email from Lavasoft.

I cant say that ad-aware dropping the ball on the last version will cause them serious problems. I wont be paying for it either.. just have some comments about it..

Obviously.. those of us who knew what it was.. what spyware is..pay attention to posts and forums like this.. will probably never pay for the new version. Them fumbling and spybot working so well.. and free.. They lost our attention.

But.. how many people even know what spyware is? Maybe 30% of all internet users.. Maybe 15% of them know how to get rid of it or even care.

From a business point of view.. ad-aware probably changed plan of attack just in time. If the product is a better version of the original freeware app.. $30.00 isnt a crazy price. Nortons selling for that and more in retail stores. Again.. how many people know about pricewatch or finding oem deals at ebay? How many people actually run antivirus software?

People are becoming more aware of spyware and eventually.. ad-aware and companies like them will be earning some serious money. People paying for the product means it will be improved and supported. If they didnt switch to the paid to play deal.. how would they be able to continue offering the product? Imagine if every internet user downloaded ad-aware today and started checking for updates. Bandwidth alone would be a small fortune.

None of us want to pay for anything anymore.. Usually.. the free stuff is the best anyway. Regcleaner.exe for example. Spybot.. heck.. even notepad. Im tired of buying new software for everything. The internet made us this way by offering everything free from aol's 1000 hours to email, webspace, e-cards you name it. Now.. they have to charge for things and we feel cheated. Offended even.. "pay for a browser?" what the?

Antivirus software, firewall, spyware remover, popup stopper.. Cant these all be combined into one program? If they are.. will we be getting the best in each category? Will someone complain that they are trying to corner the market?

Spybots free.. updated regularly.. right now anyway. At one point InoculateIT was the best free AV.. ZA was the best free firewall.. heck maybe the best firewall period.. but eventually.. the product vanishes or it becomes outdated junk on our data partition.

Should this be in the OT forum?

Ad-Aware is kindof useless, it may be good for a week or two, but going months without updates is not going to stop new spyware...I would not waste my space or time. SpywareBlaster and SpyBot have constant updates this is what you should download and install.

Adaware had updates but you had to go and find them yourself.. maybe the new one will ahve more updates constantly.
As for spybot and the rest of them none of them are perfect either and have repeatedly found the wrong things to delete much to persons chagrin.
I am using Pest Patrol, so far I like it very much. A lot better than Spybot or Spycop etc.
It has found more definitions and the whole lot of them put together and it has always been spot on...so far!!!

I will look at pest patrol and see if it is good also, but when I had adaware there were no updates to be found anywhere, if there were this forum needs to know where?I am for any spyware detector as long as there are updates.

No spyware to remove, if you have this.
Has a built in updater also.

All you had to do,was install/run the "RefUpdate Add-on".They "were" easy to get,and fairly frequent...for a while. You basically have to do the same thing with Spybot, just from within the same window.

As far as Pest Patrol is concerned...they ALSO dropped the ball for while prior to the release of their latest version. :)

I know what the Kid is talking about regarding Pest Patrol.Adaware didn't have updates available for months period!I know,I had it and that's the reason that I dumped it!If you are going to pay for spyware removal, donate to Spybot or look at Spyware Eliminator from www.aluriasoftware.com. I did both and am satisfied with Spyware Eliminator as a backup.Spybot rules!!! Regards.JB

Pest Patrol is well up to date.

I installed Adaware last night and have not had much of a chance to use it yet.
There were updates for adaware you had to egt them form the site or as mentioned with updater.
At the end they didnt bother anymore.

I also use another method unfortuantely (unless some knows how) doesnt work in Opera Browser.
But in IE I go to Contol Panel/Internet/Security/Sites adn place in along list of definitions from known soyware.. this help i warding some of the more known bugs.

I have been looking at this piece of freeware as well and thinking of checking it out.
