Comment:

On my desktop it says active desktop recovery but it will not let me recover. When I go to change the wallpaper, the default Window selections (Zapotec, Water Color, etc) are greyed out and can't be picked. Could this be a virus even though I have had Norton 360 on the whole time?

Hard to say. Try an online scan:

Anti-virus is not a magic bullet. If
you're not running a secured web browser,
you're vulnerable to scripts, even in
Vista.

Try disabling active desktop in the registry the renable it

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]

add a dword entry "NoActiveDesktop" no quotes and set to 1

reset PC

Once the active desktop error is gone go back in the registry and set back to 0

remember registry editing can be dangerous
