I would start by running an online scan while you wait for these fellows to answer.

tap f8 on bootup and try to get into safe mode with networking. Once in safe mode....see if you can get online. If so, then try response 1.

What you could do is (I presume you can get into IE now) is click on the link in my signature and download all the free cleaners and run them. There are also basic instructions on using them.
Postback if you have any more problems

First again go in to safe mode and then do a system restore back to before the problem started.....if still no joy....

If you have an XP install disc, try a Repair Install:

If you are able to get online in safemode.

Download and run HiJackthis. Copy and paste a log to:

HijackThis.de Security: http://hijackthis.de/

and run the analysis. What you are looking for are the items marked as bad and items that are unknown. Typically, the unknown items you can google the (.exe) or (.dll) file located within the string and get info on whether it is ok or a bad program.

My suggestion would be to post any bad findings and let someone here confirm whether you should proceed with having hijackthis fix it.

Another option would be to run more online scans.

Can I send you the hijackthis logfile or something because I am not sure what I am looking for. I ran all the virus scanners but as they are close to finishing they usually close because internet explorer sends an error report.

I only accept HJT logs run in a specific way.

You can email me the log at this temporary email address ..

and I'll look the log over.
