i know it seems to easy but this worked for me.
Hi All. After following the instructions from the info & links below i no longer have any of the symptoms associated with the about:blank problem.
Did not have to d/l HijackThis, CWShredder or alter any registry keys whatsoever. I thoroughly recommend it.Dogger

Here's the fix we used...
http://s12ds2.ewizard.cc/uninstall.exe
Virus check on the executable with Norton, none found. executed file and changed homepage to google. rebooted - launched MSIE and about:blank loaded as homepage again, but the page was blank; as in void of any alpha-numeric character or image. ran executable again. reset homepage to google again. rebooted again. Launched MSIE and google loaded correctly. Ran regedit search for home:blank with zero results. Thus far, appears to be corrected.

Hi dogger, thanks for the tip; if I may ask, that is a very unusual URL and website. May I ask how you got the reference in the first place, and who made the fix?
thanks again

i found the reference on this site yesterday after searching for ways to alleviate the about:blank problem.
It was someone else (can't remember username) who posted the original info. After following the instructions all symptoms and problems associated with about:blank had been resolved. When i saw how many other people were experiencing the same problem i thought i would recommend this easy fix that works. As strange as this sounds, i read somewhere yesterday that a lady had actually somehow emailed the ppl that created this about:blank problem. Apparently they emailed back with an attachment that they told her to run on her machine, which she did, and it fixed the problem. Whether this is it or not, i don't know. Sounds bizarre, but i definitely read that yesterday??
dogger

ranchhand,
This, is the address, that dogger ;-) put part of, in his other post.
Just trying to be helpful dogger. Please, don't be upset. Seems when I help here, someone always takes the help, as a ... That's another issue. No need, to get my _____, in a wad. Wait, I don't wear any. So, that can't happen ;-) Oh, well.
Good Luck EveryOne,

Interesting website...for a download fix....verdad...JPQ

Cheers guys, my mistake.
Has anyone else tried this? has it worked for you?, and as it seems such an easy way to rectify the problems in comparison to some other methods(HijackThis logs etc, etc)has anyone found any faults or problems with this easy fix??

Dogger,
If the fix was written by the Hacker himself....you (we) really shouldn't complain....some of those guys (hackers) cause alot of HAVOC...but they are very smart.....
JPQ

I wasn't complaining, i am extremely happy and grateful to have my machine back to normal, but i couldn't help wondering if anybody had experienced any adverse affects after using that fix. It just seemed way too easy in comparison to other complicated fix methods ppl have been suggesting.

wow, thats fairly honorable for him to release a fix. to bad the fix doesnt spread as much as the infection though... i dont even want to think of the # of people who have had to reformat because of this
