This message is duplicated under Windows 2000 issues.

When I go to change my Home Page in Internet Explorer-Internet Options-General Tab-Home Page.I have three (3)Radio Buttons there titled, Use Current, Use Default, and Use Blank for changing the Home Page.

Use Default and Use Blank only provide an aboutblank.com (blank) Home Page when they are pressed and applied. Neither of the latter two (2) buttons can be changed to another home page. Only the aboutblank.com home page is permitted. Please advise after reading below.

Below is a more detailed description of the problem?

(Open Microsoft Internet Explorer-Click on Tools-Internet Options. Here on the Top of the General Tab Page a secton called:)

Home Page (with the following explanation:)

You can change which page to use for your home page.

(An Address Bar is below this:)

Address: (with a Dialogue Box for inserting a web address.)

(Three Radio Buttons appear underneath the Address Bar titled:)

Use Current Use Default Use Blank

When the Use Current Radio Button is pressed the home page changes to whichever web address is currently displayed.

However, when the Use Default Radio Button is Pressed about.blank appears in the Address Dialouge Box above.

When Use Blank Radio Button is Pressed about.blank appears in the Address Dialouge Box above.

When either of these two (2) Radio Buttons is Pressed about.blank is inserted into the Address: Dialouge Box. When the Apply Radio Button is Pressed at the bottom of the Genaral Tab about. blank becomes the new Home Page which is a complete blank.

When I replaced the Use Default Radio Button with a different web address and the Apply Radio Button was pushed at the bottom of the General Tab, a Microsoft AntiSpyware Dialologue Box appeared the first time ONLY notifying me of the change in Home Page Address for this button (Use Default) which was currently about.blank and asks you whether you wish to perform this task.

Pressing YES sends a report to Microsoft Spyware, but the new home page change for the Use Default Radio Button is not changed and reverts back to about.blank rendering it useless with the only option as about.blank as a home page when this button is pushed.

(When about.blank is replaced in the address box for each of these two (2) Radio Buttons by typing in the desired home cage complete web address and Pressing Go-the new home page does not appear and when you open Internet Options -General Tab-and Press either Use Default or Use Blank only about.blank appears. Neither of these two (2) Radio Buttons can be changed from about.blank and therefore are useless.)

I occasionally, when web browsing, will get an about blank button in my IE Task Bar at the bottom of the Desktop, but it is "inactive" and dissappears when I click on it or if I keep browsing.

I ran the following Spyware/Adware Programs and did not find anything to fix:

Spyware Doctor
Ad-Aware SE Personal
Microsoft AntiSpyware
PestPatrol
Spybot - Search & Destroy

When I ran hijackthis Program and submitted the Log for Analysis at http://hijackthis.de/index.php?langselect=english

I received the following flagged potential problem areas from the analysis:

Is about blank still infecting my computer?

Thank you.

Thanks Rambler.

I really wasn't familiar with the Default and Blank radio buttons in Internet Options-General-Homepage for changing the homepage. I thought they might have something to do with the NASTY about blank that had infected my machine in the past and didn't get removed. Ignorance is not always bliss!

I ran across these links that explained their use and how to change the Default homepage from about blank to another web address. See below.

I will check out your suggestion for resetting Default IE browser settings using the Advanced Tools/Browser Restore function in MS AntiSpyware.

Thank you again for responding.
