Firstly, that is you system restore folder. Those are the points in history that you can go back to with Win. if you mess something up.

Secondly, If you need the space that bad, you could put a boot disk in and reboot. Once into dos simply delete the folder.

Hope that helped

You can also go to disk cleanup and under the more options tab choose to remove all but last restore point. That is if it is a Known good one.

A way to have system restore's possible (?)
benefits and a smaller folder is to right click MyComputer/left clic kproperties/performance/file system and set it anywhere from 200 to 600 Mb.
If you want to disable it click troubleshooting and check the box that says so.
After one of these done, click OK and reboot.

Disable system restore - it never works and it eats hard disks.

curio - that's because people always suggest to do a system restore when that's not what they need. actually, it can oftentimes make things more difficult. It has saved me alot in the past, although there was a time when a system restore wouldn't work (i was hacked).

system resoter is NOT A BACKUP TOOL! If you use it thinking it's backing up your system no wonder it never works for you...
