Subject: A girl needs some HELP!OS: windowsxpCPU/Ram: dunnoModel/Manufacturer: compac presario 6000 |
Comment: I have windows XP and my computer has had numerous problems for sometime. I used to download music files and I am guessing this is how it all started. Ive done a little research. I have Micro-trend anti virus and I also have Norton. I have run spyware doctor and vundofix. all of which detect Vurtumonde, trojan downloader, and other various spyware. Spyware doctor says they are all removed.. vundofix deletes all but one yaywtsr.dll. eachtime I rerun these programs there are more infected files. My computer is so slow and I continue to get pop ups for malware ads. i have tried downloading hijack this but each time I try the webpage shuts off. I am just an average girl and Im not that great with computers! Can anyone rescue me???

Reply: (edit)>>>A girl needs some HELP!<<< Hmmmmm....that is quite a subject if I do say so. In the link you'll find some pretty good ideas on posting and finding your specs if you'd like. You may get more replies. First of all you say you use Norton AND Trend Micro.....that is a big problem in itself. You should only have ONE AV running at a time or they will conflict with eachother. If your primary AV is Norton then I would suggest unloading Trend Micro. If the major AV is Trend Micro, then be sure to go to the Norton website and use their installer or NO AV or firewall will work correctly. After that is cleared up, I would suggest downloading Avast free and allow it to do a bootscan on reboot. That may find your problems or at least help clear them up. Be sure to move all infections to the chest. If you notice the infections are in the restore files, you will have to turn off system restore and then do another bootscan. See if that helps get rid of your problem, please post back so we can see how you are making out. Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

Reply: (edit)In any situation the Norton needs to go. I offer tutorials and advice to get rid of AV altogether but many people disagree. I say, 'wuddeva' - and enjoy a computer that is blazing fast and has permissions to actually block malicious activity. Two AV programs that are active at once is catastrophe in the waiting. Why serve in heaven when you can reign in hell?
