My computer isn't mine anymore. Its so infected with spyware and the like that I really can't do anything without getting a warning of sorts. the most common is the Trojun detected. It tells me it couldn't clean it and that it was quarintined but I'll get that like every 2 minutes. I'm also getting the smartissue scr:line:6error scode:800401f3 warning my home page changes to an unnamed search engine. I've also lost Notepad when I try to view anything on a notepad it just goes to a blank dos window. Thats all I can think of right now. I used Ad-aware and it said it clean everything but when I do a second scan right after the fist it still finds 15 problems. Now my Norton anti-virus tells me that I have 35 problems that it can't fix. I'm to much of a computer noob to start pulling things out of my registy manually or to try and reformat the whole thing myself.one more thing is there anyway to stop my firewall from asking me every 5 second what I want to do when an out side system is trying gain access? I've checked the "always do" and I entered block it will ask me 3 times in a row. Sometimes the always do is alreay checked and others not. If it would just "always do" than I wouldn't have to keep clicking an the @#$%ing popup. BTW its by Norton also.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and any help is greatly appiciated
Thanks again
Lazee

Learn the format process, It will save you money in the future as well as trouble now. Its really simple and will get you off on the right foot again. Thats my suggestion.
May God forgive, and bless the United States.

Ummm....
Well, the bad news: If you don't have the skills to fix it, and don't feel like we could talk you through fixing it, then you best format and reload.
It will save you a lot of time, energy, and aggrivation.
I'm sure if you search this site, or even Google for that matter, you will find many step by step descriptions on how to format and reload WHATEVER YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM IS!
Sorry, you didn't tell us, so can't help you there. Sony Vaio is a Make and Model, not an Operating System. Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP home, XP Pro would be Operating Systems.
Good Luck!
Sorry.

This is the site at 'install guides' on the left side of this page. There are directions for reinstalling.

Hey GenLeighLazee,
No sweat. Good luck.
You will save yourself a lot of heartache by backing up anything that's important to you and reloading your OS.

Lazee,
"My computer isn't mine anymore".....and it probably may never be if you do not learn to be pro-active when it comes to your PC ethics. Formating and reloading the PC is indeed a good place to start but stopping there is like putting band-aid on a gunshot wound it is not going to have a lasting effect.
After you reload the PC:
0. Get a reliable firewall.
1. Install windows patches and updates as needed.
2. Install and constantly update your AV as well as scumware tools.
3. Mind what you download and where you go on the internet.
4. Don't congest your registry by installing a billion programs that you will never need.
5. Have a plan B, programs like PQDI or something similar will come in handy here.
6. Run necessary maintenance programs periodically on your hard drive.Lastly separate your data files from the system files to reduce your loss when thing go awry.

The greatest risk is not taking one

Unless you have a router with a hardware firewall, disconnect the computer so there is no internet access. After you get XP installed, make sure that you have either installed a firewall ior the XP firewall is enabled(Settings>Control Panel>Network Connections> Local Area Connection>right click and select properties>advanced> select protect my computer. You can now connect to the internet safely. Takee care and all the best!
