3 long days of desperation

Comment:

I have spent the past 3 days trying to eradicate 1on1 dialler and the 123Found homepage changer. I have installed Adaware 6 and used countless virus checkers - most of which stop at a certain file register consisting of lots of numbers and letters. I have now done a Hijack This log which I can show if anyone wnats/needs to see it. I think I may have got rid of the bugs (Adaware picked up 4 items - 3 x IGETNET and 1 x winlogon.exe which have been removed). Adaware now finds nothing. Are there any other checks I can do and why does the scan keep stopping at a certain point (as above).

Can anybody please tell me I'm now ok or must the worry continue???

Please help and give me light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks - I have used:
SpyBot 2.0
NAV 2002 (but with most recent update).
Adaware 6 with most recent update - this keeps stopping 1/2way through having found 18 new objects up that point...at ref CLSID\{37bo....etc...}.
tried Housecall but that also got part way through and then got stuck.
Also have Spyguard and blaster on the machine also.
Happy to post most recent HTL if this would be of use...

Thanks for your reply...

By the way - I did a selective search with Adaware (so that it wouldnt keep stopping) and it found and auto-quarantined:

obj[0]=File : c:\windows\help_ecc.dll

IGETNET
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
obj[1]=File : c:\windows\system\bho001.dll
obj[2]=File : c:\windows\system\install_all.dll
obj[3]=File : c:\windows\system\winstart001.exe

Thanks - I have now deleted that,

Adaware is still getting stuck at CLASS ID {37BO....etc...}. I'll try to uninstall and rerun in the meantime.

Thanks

It will be a while before I can get back to you, bud. Sorry, work calls.

Anyway, in the meantime, do the following:

Update all of your scanners (SpyBot, Ad-Aware, and Norton)

Restart your computer in SAFE MODE.

Run the scans again, this time in SAFE MODE.

They should run through to completion without anything running to interrupt them.

Gotta work.
I will check in later

POST WITH YOUR RESULTS (a written summary NOT the logs...yet).

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks again

I updated all software and ran in safe-mode and Adaware still got stuck at CLASSID{37BO3543...etc..as above}. It had 2 new items up to that point but couldnt see what they were.

Also, ran NAV and that got stuck at multiple places usually in temp/temp internet directories - guess I should just delete these?

Anyway, SpyBot had found 18 unsafe items mainly from HKEYCLASSES including bunch of COMLOAD stuff (11 items) - dont know what they are for, more IGETNEY items, an Adbureau tracking cookie item, an Alexa related link - whatever that was!, 5 DSO (data source object) exploit items - again whatever they are, and 3 Windows media player items. They are all now in the recovery file.
I know you dont want to see the HTL but seen as we may not communicate for sometime (I;m in the UK), then here it is incase you wanted to refer to the latest copy.

PS> are winlogon.exe and wmuagrd.exe safe? and also that item where Adaware/NAV keeps getting stuck?
Also, should I delete all the Windows Prefetch files as there were some winstart001 files and there is also a CSRSS.exe file in there which I seem to have heard elsewhere may be nasty?

All in all, abit of a mess I guess??!!
The good news is that I dont seem to be getting the 1on1 popping up now and no attempted change to the homepage either but I guess the register and other areas may still need cleaning up?

...and thanks for your help AOSCLAY!

I had the 1on1 dialer and norton could not delete it in safe or normal mode. I got rid of it by emptying the cache in my Java console in Control Panel. It was in use is why Norton couldn't get rid of it. I hope this helps some with your problem.

forgive the rather dull moment I've had. Forgot to mention one of the "must-dos".

You also should also download/update/run:

CW SHREDDER at:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

(paste into browser)

"PS> are winlogon.exe and wmuagrd.exe safe?"

depends on their location. Your winlogon.exe is in the right location. Now, as for wmuagrd.exe, it seems that the malicious one I am used to seeing is something like:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [WindowsUpdate] wuamgrd.exe

But don't take that for gospel.

What is the rest of this CLSID: "{37BO3543...etc..as above}"

ANd I don't know quite WHAT this is:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [websx] C:\Program Files\websx\int339890.exe -auto

Anyway, download/update/run CW Shredder.
And you might consider staying away from Kazaa. Its a great way to catch all sorts of nasty stuff.

Good Luck!
Post away for assistance.

Thanks, now have cws shredder, iespyad, spybot, syguard, spyblaster, adaware 6 and NAV.

For NAV, adaware and when running housecall the machine doesnt make it all the way through - think its something in my temp files. The place adaware stops is:

CLSID\{37BO3543-A4C8-11D2-B634-OOCO4F79498E} - If that means anything!
I'll chuck Kazaa.

The Hijack log now reads: (i think the O17's are my DSL provider - PIPEX (UK).
