Good afternoon,

I have 3 computers right now that have similar issues...
the first was a computer has a login screen once windows starts (compA) that i recieved from a friend who's keyboard stopped working.. tried new keyboard both PS/2 and USB. took hardrive out of compA and put into a freshly formatted working computer (compB)no additional HDs installed... still same problem... hd does not lockup or freeze it just stops the keyboard from working.. put compA HD in another computer (compC) as a slave to try and virus scan/adware etc.. in compC cleaned up some defintions that were found and put it back into compA.. same result.

now.. compB has constant "found new hardware.. USB controller" but can't find drivers or installs many instances of said hardware... and keyboard doesn't work..

compC now has "found new hardware mass storage device" on every restart similar to compB and sound on compC stopped working..

but keyboard will work in bios on all 3 and still works on compC

now that the background is out of the way..

what the heck is going on? i'm re-formatting compB right now to see if that fixes it.. but compA and compC will require lots of backup before format if that's the solution.. has anyone encountered this or how can I fix it?

Not everything is a virus - - certainly nothing you've described gives any indication of anything but hardware (or possibly settings) issues

"i'm re-formatting"

Well, that will only help in the case of infection - - hardware problems can't be 'formatted away'

I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.

thanks for the fast reply

it's just odd that a working computer starts having similar symptoms once the non-working computer's hd is in put in it.. that's the confusing part.. it was freshly formatted and working for a day then right after i put the hd from compA in it started.
