Hi Everyone,
Avg keeps reporting that 2 trojan horses are trying to access my computer. The first is- c:\temp\instal.exe-trojan horse, dropper.delf.3.L which avg can delete. The other file that is also trying to infect my machine is-c:\temp\instal~1.exe same TJ as above, but, avg tells me requested action (delete,heal and move to vault) is not available for this object. The only action left for me is to punch up continue. I don't know why avg cannot delete the second file as it did for the first.
How can I remove this virus threat from infecting my computer, avg seems to be doing a good job of protecting my comp with the exception of this dropper in instal~1, I would appreciate your help in removing this second malware,
thanking you in advance for any help you can give me,
frank

If that doesn't work use Trend Micro's free online virus scan.
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day;
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime;
Then industry pollutes the water and kills all the fish.

Thank you Jude, Tufenuf and Ranchhand for your input. The move to vault is avg's quarantine, I will try to get into the safe mode to try to delete the tj, I have been to trend, it is a good service. I can't understand why avg does not have the ability to zap the other file that comes along with the first one. Trend does not do a selective scan and it takes time to sweep c drive. Since I know where the malware is located, It would be great to pinpoint the infection and delete it,
thanks again guys,
frank

if you can pin-point the location rename the file anything with an extension of .xxx and delete it

A tip of the hat to White Hat, thank you for your input, didn't even think about that, hopefully it is not an access denied file, but, I will give it a try,

Hello Everyone,
I just did a drive search and went into the temp area and found nothing. This I don't understand. Avg reports these files with tj's and asks what should be done with them, it reports it deleted one and could not take any action with the other one. Yet a scan and manual search turns up nothing. It has me scratching my head,
frank

frank, the infected file is probably hidden by its archive bit or other means. It could be that this thing is so new that AVG has not written a "definition" for it and then again some trojans are almost impossible to remove. Also, AVG is written for virus detection and not a trojan horse. A trojan is not a "virus".
There is a lot of software available that is written specifically to find and deal with the Trojan Horse crap. Some have a trial period and will find and remove them others do not have the trial or only just search your system for them.
Do a Google search for Trojan Horse remover and I think you will find something to help you.

Hello again all,
I have downloaded trojan hunter, a sweep of the computer found adware that I removed, as the program was searching my files, avg popped up again about finding the same tj, this time though, its tag along partner, the one that could not be removed, had disappeared. If nothing else 7 files of malware has been removed and hopefully down the road, I will be rid of the tj that keeps haunting me.I thank all of you who were kind enough to help me get rid some of the junk we encounter on the net,
I wish all of you a wonderful holiday season and a healthy new year,
frank
