Comment: I have noticed that some people say it is not good to have more than one anti-virus program. WHy is this? SOme other people say it's no prob. I have Symantec and Avast. I use Avast when I feel like it and have great success and I have Symantec set to run once a week in the middle of the night. I don't use them at the same time. Is this wrong? My comp has been slow but I didn't think it was that. THANKS! :) I may be lost but I'm learning!

Reply: (edit)Yes you should only install one AV because two AV's will "butt heads" with each other. Norton runs in the back ground as well. This can help if you do a lot of P2P file sharing because it can detect a virus the momment it gets on your computer even if the download isn't compleate. A few years ago I used AVG6 (free) and Norton without a hitch but thats changed now with AVG7. Your system might be slow because of Symantec, it's sometimes a hog on resorces. I never used Avast so I have no comment on it. To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research.

Reply: (edit)Yes, no two antivirus! If so, both antivirus will not be able to show their full potential in protecting your PC! I suggest Symantec Norton Antivirus, even though slows down your system but yet, you are sure of protection!

Reply: (edit)Believe it or not, running two or more AntiVirus programs simulteanously confirms a lack of confidence in any one of them. When you eventually run into an AntiVirus program that you truly trust, running another one is not something you'll consider, even if the program is offered to you for free. Reply: (edit)If you say your PC runs slow, I would say it's the Norton Anti-virus doing it. Avast! does not take up near as many resurces as Norton. MIKE TYSON VIRUS quits after one byte

Reply: (edit)moomom It's ok to have two Installed as long as only one is actually Running The idea behind this is that both will Run happily together but the trouble arises if you do get a Virus - they will both detect it and then 'fight' each other with possible disastrous consequences I don't know if this is true as I have only one AV Prog Lesley

Reply: (edit)You can use two antivirus programs. But you should only have one program running as a monitor. The second av program should be a scanner only! Just disable the primary av program's monitor when you use the second scanner. HTH, JB
