windows cmd scripting creating arrays

June 9, 2011 at 04:30:22
Specs: Windows 2008
This is done via a Windows cmd script

I have a directory containing a number of files, all named the same except for a date and time stamp.

I list these out for the user, and allow selection by name of the file required.

what I would like to do is to assign each file a number as I print out the list i.e

1. File.d20110405
2. File.d20110406
etc etc

then allow the user to select say "2" and use the File.d20110406

How do a create an array with the number and name related,

and later on after I have displayed the list, reference the file chosen from the array??

I am totally new to this and have just picked this work up.

I have on hand a batch script perfectly suited to your need (almost I guess). Please contact me by a private message with your e-mail address and specify what you want to do with the selected file as the guy I coded the script for wanted to open the file since that was bound to a specific application but this is not the case.
