February 12, 2011 at 03:42:20
Specs: Windows XP

I am using Windows XP Service Pack 3 and would like to setup a autorun om my computer.

The thing is, I have a mobile harddrive, which I want to copy to my compyter, every time it is connected.

How do I do this, I have found a lot of info, but none that is specific...

Any possible advise?

Thanks in advance :-)

ok well basically you have to make a batch and edit the autorun.inf to run it every time that you plug in your external. so go into notepad and type in the folowing:
attrib -h -s autorun.inf
save it as a bat file and run it.
now edit the autorun.inf to run your bat every time. so just type your program name in there. now go to the previous edited notepad (bat) file and replace the - with + so now the code will be:
attrib +h +s autorun.inf
now to code your copy bat. The code im publishing now may have to be tampered with a lil bit.
copy *.* C:\New

the C is your drive letter and the New is the folder you want to copy your contents to. If you give me all the details im sure I can give you the whole code that it works completely :)

Autorun got updated a few days ago via windows update.

It looks like external HDD's won't autorun on fully up to date xp or vista systems.

correct Judago, and if not up to date then most of the antivirus wont let autorun.inf get executed from external drives/thumd drives as they are the biggest source of virrus infection.

Still if you want to create auto run file then check this .l i was using it in my pen drive .
I removed most of the unwanted stuff however still some may be present, modify as neccerrry.

@ECHO OFF & cls
TITLE ********* Script for my Thumpdrive **************
echo Deleting any existing Autorun file from root............
set NUM=%RANDOM:~-1%
ERASE /A autorun.iNF /F
echo Creatng a new Autorun file..
ECHO>>AUTORUN.INF Action=subhash.exe
echo Autorun.inf successfully created in root...
ECHO>>AUTORUN.INF Shell\Write-protect-enable\=Write-protect-Enable
ECHO>>AUTORUN.INF Shell\Menu By Subhash\=Menu By Subhash
ECHO>>AUTORUN.INF Shell\Write-protect-enable\command=REGEDIT /S \chandra\scripting\PROTECT.REG
ECHO>>AUTORUN.INF Shell\Menu By Subhash\command=chandra\scripting\subhash.exe
ECHO>>AUTORUN.INF Shell\Write-protect-Disable \=Write-protect-Disable
echo Writing Script in autorun ............
ECHO>>AUTORUN.INF Shell\Write-protect-Disable \command=REGEDIT /S \chandra\scripting\write.reg
ECHO>>AUTORUN.INF shell\chandra\=Subhash Chandra
ECHO>>AUTORUN.INF shell\chandra\command=chandra\scripting\CHANDRA.BAT

ECHO>>AUTORUN.INF icon=chandra\scripting\ICONS\%NUM%.ico
echo Scrip writing completed..

echo Script is created Successfully.......

echo Launching explorer shell........

its a batch file wihch creates a autorun.inf in the root of the drive.
