Subject: Why do I work best after midnight?OS: Windows XP Pro SP2CPU/Ram: 2.0GHz/1GBModel/Manufacturer: ABS Mayhem Z2 |
Comment: Hello everyone! Hey umm... I ask here because I thought this might be a common thing for office workers, such as programmers. The question is stated in the subject; why is it that I code better after midnight? One example. I've been trying to do something which is REALLY hard for me; in many different languages, but I never could accomplish it. One night, I had drank a large cup of cola and I had no choice but to stay awake until 7 in the morning. Well, that morning, I did what I was trying to do in the hardest language. It's not the first time it's happened though. I'm a lot more productive on non-school months because I can stay up all I want. Does anyone else have this problem? Or should I ask on a psychology forum instead? Thanks! PS: No, it wasn't the cola, I've been awake for very long without one drop of caffeine. -- Leo

Reply: (edit)Welcome to the world of computers/programming lol. When I was in college, I did 95% of my best programming from 10PM and later. Something about the night always made me more calm and relaxed making it easier for me to think and get things done.

Heh, heh. By any chance have you gone back and carefully looked over that code in the harsh light of day? Does it look like it was dictated to you by a flying Inca monkey god, and now you just need someone to translate it for you? ;-) Some people just have a different circadian rhythm than others, and are at their best late at night. A matter of hormones, your normal sleep cycle, exposure to daylight, and who knows what else. Everyone's a little different.

Reply: (edit)I usually find that if I have a couple of beers at lunch time, the next day ALL my afternoon code looks like it was dictated by a flying Inca monkey god. Even worse, he was using ViaVoice. :-)

Stupid monkeys. God my butt. And Jackdash, I wish I could try that, but they won't sell beer to minors. Stupid U.S. law. Free country my butt. -- Leo
