Hello everyone, im kinda stuck, i have trying to find an explaination a very basic and claer explainantion on what the .net framework is and why is was made. Sounds like a dumb question coz i can just look it up on the web but thats the problem i cant find anything that is easy tounderstand. if somebody could help that would be brillient.

.Net framework is a common library of object and types that run under the CLR (Common Language Runtime) system that microsoft has created. Basically it is a virtual machine similar to JVM (Java Virtual Machine).

Or to put it another way, it Microsoft's method of ensuring that programmers and users are chained to Windows.
Any applications written under .NET will only run on Windows and cannot be ported to any other operating system.

Not entirely true. There are at least 2 "port"s to linux: Mono and DotGNUChi

Chi is correct, there are CLR (Common Language Runtime) for linux too.
i have tried it and its good.
the purpose of .Net Framework was the redevelop VS and to make a promise to programmers that in comming future cross plateform applications will be supported, just like java.

My description of the .NET Framework: Something annoying that don't let other people run your C#/VB.NET programs on their machines if they don't have it. :-(

i dont know i had the misfortune of learning C++.net and by gosh its annoying above and by far annoying
but yea its a cool idea but another way of microsoft making sure you have to life us to program
