Comment: Hi. I've heard a lot of praises for this language. Right now, I'm beginning to study it right now, but what I want is a knowledge of what it can do. Can it make a connection to a DBMS to retrieve data from a database? Can it get the information pass from HTML forms and store it in the database? I know that applets are its popular components, so aside from these, are their any other strong application that Java can do? Please provide me an info regarding this. Thanks.

Reply: (edit)Java can do all that, and much more. Theres probably no better platform to use to build medium to large scale web apps. Applets are for the most part a thing of the past though. You want to concentrate more on servlets and jsps. If you interested, you should at least check out these two sites: java.sun.com
