Im making my own 3D-engine, and im using
C++ and DirectX.
Now i wonder, is OpenGL or SDL better?
Right now im using Windows 98 and it
sucks!!! As long as i can remember windows
have caused alot of trouble and pain, there
was always something wrong! When we had
some ancient MAC machine ages ago, it
NEVER froze! Even tough the evil empire
says that XP is so good, its really not
much more then cow-s--- in a really good-
looking pakage!
Now i have heard alot of good about Linux,
so im planning on buying it.
As far as i know about DirectX, you have to
use its high-level functions to use the hardware power of the graphic-card. Is there
a way or API, that allows me to write my own software-rasterizer and be able to use
the power of all graphic-cards that the API
support without writting drivers to every
card?

I like using visual c++ under NT or if you must use Directx then go with xp or win2k..but opengl would be a much better choice cause with opengl its not platform dependent..and its much less buggy and easier to work with than dx :)..of course those that only have worked with dx and not opengl will disagree but ive worked with both and dx blows.

one more thing..windows 95/98/me suck as it is..why try and program for a crappy OS with a buggy API ? you're just asking for problems..Opengl is alot more stable and you can choose to use whatever OS you want

NT/2k/XP are all based on windows NT code so they are alot more stable than those other windows are except 2k its still kinda crappy heh
