Reply: (edit)I would suggest starting out with Qbasic then working your way up. Qbasic is a free programming tool you can find about anywere on the web. Its a simple program but very difficult to make grafix and other sorts on it. When you master that save some of ur work so submit to companys they only accept aplication with a demo tape (demo tape is a group of things that you have made and put together. there are many different fields in which you can work in as a video game disigner... I also plan to do this and i am young too only a softmore in high school. Getting started early is a great idea to formiluraize urself with each program. ~Charbonneau

Reply: (edit)Gotta work on that spelling before you get hired ;) Anyhow, if you are really serious about game development then you would want to look in to SDKs for DirectX and/or OpenGL. You should learn C++ or Visual Basic.

Reply: (edit)I too am a sophmore in high school, planning to go into a career in programming (hopefully for video games).I started with Visual Basic. it's really easy to make games on there, because it has timers already made for you, you can easily check user input, you can easily do things in real time, and graphics are incredibly easy to have if you just use picture boxes and/or shapes, and you can make the graphics move very easily as well, and sound isn't that hard to get either.
