Hello All
Just wondering...
I dont know much about either of these Languages
But recently I became aware of some sort of turf war between Sun Java and Microsoft VB
Whats the deal?
I beleive there is an either-or type of situation in IE explorer, Over which product you want your computer to use.
I am familiar with Vis Basic so I may explore a little VBScript when I get the timeDo you Folks have any Preference, Input or Ideas on this subject?

There is or was a turf war between Sun and Microsoft but that was to do with Java, nothing to do with VB Script. MS where forced to stop distributing Java Virtual Machine with its OS. Thats the difference between SP1 and SP1a. SP1a has no Java VM. If you want a Java VM now you have to download it separately and you have the choice between Sun Java and MS Java.
Which one you use is a matter of choice. Java is the more common. VB Script is a lot easier to learn, consequently it was used by "script kiddies" to distribute viruses, although the same can be done with Java but it takes a little more skill. Most firewalls will block VB Scripts as a matter of routine.
You can have both Java VM and VB script on the same machine. VB is purely Microsoft. Nobody else does a VB Script interpreter.

Also of note:
Java and JavaScript are two entirely different things. Java was developed by Sun and JavaScript was developed by Netscape.
