I was using Internet Explorer(latest version) to surf a site(www.courses.nwu.edu) and came across this weird message:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'
Type mismatch: 'CLng'
/bin/n_libBase64.asp, line 161
What does this mean?

I then downloaded netscape and had no problem accessing the site, but I'm still curious why IE can't handle the site.

MS KnowledgeDatabase has an article on this problem, but the article involves changing the code, which I don't think is possible since it's a website.

Of course, you'd have to contact the site administrator tell him what the problem is and how to fix it(ie: change the code), and then he'll fix it.

Ben,

This is actually a combination of the site programer not checking for the presence of certain script modules on the client and IE not having the correct settings or information that is being requested. It may even be a VBScrip VERSION conflict. I pulled your URL up just fine so the site is functional but is making assumptions about the resources available on other users computers.
