VB6 textboxes

Im strugling with an old hat problem with multiline textboxes, im programming in VB6 and i want to create an emulated console for doing script like querying, however ive tried:-

text1.text=text1.text & vbcrlf & ">"

but the damn cursor moves to the next line after the ">" even though i havent made an extra carriage return, any ideas why this is happening?

i tested on both vb6 and my older vb (vb 3.2) and did not have the difficulty you describe, using your same code. Tested on both with textbox "multi-line", once with vertical scrollbars enabled (scrollbars=2) and once with no scrollbars.
maybe check if your textbox specified as multi-line. then maybe try subtracting 1:
