Hello everyone,

I was trying to create a small database program. I first created the database in access, then use VB6 to create bound control with a textbox. I put the data control on the form, when I try to set the RecordSource Property of the Data control, I got this error message "DATABASE FORMAT NOT RECOGNIZED"

I tried Nwind.mdb that comes with VB, everything worked fine.

Can anyone tells me how to format database file in Access so that VB6 can recognize it?

Please, Help!

You appear to have a mismatch between the Access format that you version of Access is using and the one VB6 is using.

Make sure you have VB6 SP6 installed. It is still available from MS. Which version of Access are you using?

Stuart,

Thank you for responding!

The problem must be in Access. I'm using Office 2000 Premium.
When I used biblio.mdb or Nwind.mdb that came with VB6 everything worked fine.

The MSDN help file message jargon is "The specified error has occured in the automation object currently running."

I will try some re-installation and see what will happen.

Thanks!

There is no reason why Office 2000 version of access should not work, providing you have the Service Packs for that as well.

Re-installation wont help you much unless you do install the Service Packs. The Access file format changed at sometime in the past, exactly when I cant remember.

So unless you have compatible versions you are going to get problems. The newer version will read older files but not vice versa.
