Hi.
I have been learning VB for about a year and I know nothing of other languages. I just write code for things I use e.g. calculator, reminder, graphics viewer, database front-ends etc, not the next version of Norton's Systemworks. When I started VB I was told it is good to learn how to code but it is slow and limited so it is best to go on from there to something like C or C++. I would like to ask anyone who uses VB and another language if you think it is necessary for me to learn anything else later on. I don't think I need to do any low-level work and it seems to me that pc's are getting faster by the day so I'm not sure if VB being slow is a problem.
I would appreciate your thoughts on this because I am planning what I want to do next year.

Necessary? Not unless you code for a living. If you are accomplishing what you want, then why would you need to change? I imagine boasting rights are not what you are interested in, so it seems like personal need (and time and finances) would guide your decision. You'll be moving forward no matter what language you keep coding in.
Cheers

Hi Jeff J.
I don't code for a living no, just myself. Having been told that VB would only take me so far I am considering learning another language just in case I would have to eventually. From what you are saying it isn't necessary and so I'll be sticking with VB. Your advice is much appreciated, thanks.
