Hello,
I have currently Visual Studio 2005 installed in my pc and I've worked with it for about a year as I'm a beginner in programming.
I'm now in my last year of my high school, unfortunately our IT subject is teaching us Visual BASIC 2008 so, Is there a big difference between VS 2005 and VS 2008 in codes (or in major language syntax) ?
In another meaning if I used VS 2008 can I build my new experience on the knowledge that I've learnt from VS 2005 ?
And can I use the installer of VS 2008 to upgrade from VS 2005 version ? or I have to uninstall everything related to VS 2005 then start a new installation of VS 2008 ?
And Thanks for helping me.

.NET 3.5 is largely the same. You can read about the differences here. The added LINQ and Expression Trees are pretty cool, but I doubt a high school programming class would even acknowledge their existence. In another meaning if I used VS 2008 can I build my new experience on the knowledge that I've learnt from VS 2005 ?
Seeing as anything you wrote for .NET 2.0 will still compile? I'd say yes.And can I use the installer of VS 2008 to upgrade from VS 2005 version ? or I have to uninstall everything related to VS 2005 then start a new installation of VS 2008 ?
I have VS.NET, VS2K5, and VS2K8 Express on one machine. They all coexist peacefully.

Thanks very much, I've uninstalled VS 2005 and installed VS 2008 but, it lacks the J# (java) language, no prob, I don't use it but, when I started VS 2008 and made a new VB project, I saw new types (WPF application) I tried it and made a button in the form and I wrote for that button (Application.exit() ) line, it didn't work as it worked for normal Windows Application.
I believe that a wpf application is based on .Net framework 3.5, I think it's bit different from Windows Application which is based on .Net framework 2.0.
So, let me ask you this silly question how can I write a code for a button in a WPF application that can exit the application ?
And I don't care about the high school class, because, I was self-learning VB and VC++ for 2 years before.
So, I'm trying to understand anything I can get in programming from school or from any place.

I haven't touched Windows Presentation Foundation at all, so I'm not the person to ask about it. Microsoft, on the other hand, has plenty of documentation on the subject.

Great. Just don't expect to get much from the class, then. I spent 5 to 10 minutes per day on the weekly program, and spent the rest of the period playing Doom (1).Also, you might want to look into C#. It's a lot like VB.NET, but its syntax is closer to other mainstream programming languages.

Thanks a lot, I've already planned learning C# but, I learn V.B. to get used to programming and know some of OOP basics, and my real target is to get used to C++ and use it fluently as I use VB .Net.
C# is some how like C/C++ but, it's simple like VB .Net.
When I'm learning VB .Net in my summer vacation I had to practice an hour per day at least. and after that, I play for the rest of the day.
Actually I learnt the ABC of C++ and, I found it so hard to learn it by myself. So, After finishing my high school I'll join Computer Sciense Faculty in Programming section as my dream is to become a programmer who can write what others need.
Thanks again and sorry for making long stories.
