Enter the command line command followed by a "/?". I know WinRar allows for zipping and commenting, but most do.

*7za Command* /?

Can I put a question here?

Enter the command, followed by /?, it will give you every syntax for that command. I'm unfamiliar with it, so I can't tell you if 7za allows for comments.

WinRar on the other hand I have used, and it does allow commenting. If you would like to download that I can help you with it.

let me post a bit more on what im trying to do.
im working with peachtree accounting back up 2009 (no auto backup)
and im trying to make it automatic by makeing a batch file that will zip up the company folder and schedul this to run every night.

this works, i have made the batch file already

cd "C:\Peachtree\Company\companyname\"
c:\7za.exe a -tzip pt-backup.ptb *.* -r
mkdir "c:\network backup\ple\%date:~-4,4%\%date:~-10,2%\%date:~-7,2%"
move pt-backup.ptb "c:\network backup\ple\%date:~-4,4%\%date:~-10,2%\%date:~-7,2%"
cd "c:\network backup\ple\%date:~-4,4%\%date:~-10,2%\%date:~-7,2%"
for /f "tokens=1-5 delims=/ " %%d in ("%date%") do rename "pt-backup.ptb" %%e-%%f-%%g.ptb

so now i have a backup of the peachtree company folder but peachtree restore will not accept it as a peachtree backup because there is no comment.
when peachtree makes a backup it puts a comment on the backup.ptb when its in its zip format looks like this

comment on default peachtree backup:

i can manually add this comment to my ptb file by renameing it .zip and opening it with winrar and adding the comment and then rename it back to .ptb and peachtree will accept it but how can i do this in my batch file so i dont have to be at the server to manually do this?

Okay, I understood already what you needed done. All I really wanted was to see every syntax available to the 7z command. But that said. I went and downloaded it, and as far as I can see 7-zip doesn't allow commenting.

WinRAR does on the other hand. If PeachTree will work with rars, using the "RAR" command with the "c" syntax.

IE "-c "Hello""

-afzip for zip format and -z is what i needed inside the "info" file is where i put my comment for the zip

c:\program files\winrar\winrar.exe a -afzip -r -zinfo pt-backup.ptb *.*

everthing works, peachtree accepts it
